On January 22, Microsoft experienced one of its largest outages ever. The incident impacted services including 365, Outlook, and Teams. Many users lost access to email for a period of time – for up to nine hours, service was on and off as Microsoft worked on restoring services.

As of January 23, services appear to be fully restored. Here is a summary of yesterday’s events:
- Large outage reported at 1140 a.m. PST / 2:40 p.m. EST
- Many users were unable to access Defender, Azure, Teams, Copilot, and Outlook
- Possible third-party issues plus an elevated service load was experienced during North America server maintenance
- Currently, Microsoft confirms issues are resolved and services are running
