On April 6, 2023, PSN Technology partnered with the Dearborn Area Chamber of Commerce to sponsor a Breakfast and Learn focused on cybersecurity for SMBs.

A Phishing and Ransomware Discussion for Michigan Cyber Leaders — the session featured experts from Checkpoint Software.

The hybrid event was attended by business professionals via zoom and in-person at the Dearborn Chamber offices.

Small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) are increasingly becoming targets of cyber attacks. In fact, according to a recent study by the National Cyber Security Alliance, SMBs are 60% more likely to be hacked than larger businesses. This is due in part to the fact that SMBs often have fewer resources to invest in security, and they may not have the same level of expertise in cyber security as larger businesses.

PSN Technology CEO Philipp Emma describes the Checkpoint event and its importance on MiTech TV.

Checkpoint is a leading provider of cyber security solutions for SMBs. The company offers a wide range of products and services that can help SMBs protect themselves from a variety of cyber threats, including:

  • Firewalls: Checkpoint firewalls provide a physical barrier between an SMB’s network and the internet. They can block unauthorized access to the network, and they can also help to prevent malware from entering the network.
  • Intrusion detection and prevention systems (IDS/IPS): Checkpoint IDS/IPS systems can detect and prevent malicious traffic from entering an SMB’s network. They can also help to identify and block known threats, such as viruses and worms.
  • Web filtering: Checkpoint web filtering solutions can help to block inappropriate content from being accessed on an SMB’s network. They can also help to prevent employees from visiting malicious websites.
  • Email security: Checkpoint email security solutions can help to protect SMBs from email-borne threats, such as phishing attacks and spam. They can also help to prevent employees from accidentally clicking on malicious links or attachments.
  • Data loss prevention (DLP): Checkpoint DLP solutions can help to prevent sensitive data from being leaked from an SMB’s network. They can do this by monitoring all traffic on the network and blocking any attempts to send sensitive data outside of the network.
  • Endpoint security: Checkpoint endpoint security solutions can help to protect SMBs from threats that target individual computers or devices. They can do this by scanning devices for malware and other threats, and by quarantining any infected devices.
  • Cloud security: Checkpoint cloud security solutions can help to protect SMBs from threats that target cloud-based applications and data. They can do this by scanning cloud traffic for malicious activity, and by encrypting data before it is stored in the cloud.

In addition to its product offerings, Checkpoint also offers a variety of services that can help SMBs improve their cyber security posture. These services include:

  • Security consulting: Checkpoint security consultants can help SMBs assess their current security posture and develop a plan to improve it.
  • Managed security services: Checkpoint managed security services can provide SMBs with 24/7 security monitoring and support.
  • Training: Checkpoint offers a variety of training courses that can help SMB employees learn about cyber security best practices.
  • By using Checkpoint’s products and services, SMBs can significantly improve their cyber security posture and protect themselves from a variety of cyber threats.

Here are some additional tips for SMBs to help protect themselves from cyber threats:

  • Keep your software up to date: Software updates often include security patches that can help to protect your systems from known vulnerabilities.
  • Use strong passwords: Use strong passwords for all of your accounts, and don’t use the same password for multiple accounts.
  • Be careful what you click on: Don’t click on links in emails or on websites unless you’re sure they’re safe.
  • Back up your data regularly: Back up your data regularly so that you can restore it if it’s lost or corrupted due to a cyber attack.
  • Educate your employees: Educate your employees about cyber security best practices, and make sure they know what to do if they suspect a cyber attack.

By following these tips, SMBs can help to protect themselves from cyber threats and keep their businesses safe. Please contact me to find out how PSN Technology can help your business.
